As part of the Associated Students MBAC LEED Existing Building: Operations and Maintenance certification we are removing invasive plant species at SDSU’s Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve north of Fallbrook. This effort will help offset the land area occupied by the Mission Bay Aquatic Center.
You are invited to participate in this volunteer event on Sunday, April 15. The SDSU Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve (SMER) is a beautiful natural canyon environment with one of San Diego’s few year round flowing rivers complete with incoming waterfalls. You can watch an aerial flyover done by the U.S. Department of Interior at the link below. This reserve is not accessible on a normal basis and it is a special opportunity to enter the reserve. We will have staff from SDSU’s Soil Ecology and Restoration Group to train us on native and invasive plant species and we will be removing an invasive grass that is threatening to choke out the native plants.

An organic lunch and drinks will be provided. Transportation will be provided from SDSU to the reserve. The transportation will meet in front of the SDSU Viejas Arena at 8:30am and leave at 9:00am sharp on April 15 and return at 6:00pm.
