Serving those who served

MBAC teams up with San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation to provide water sports to injured soldiers.

September 7th, 2007- The Mission Bay Aquatic Center recently teamed up with the San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation to hold SummerBlast Day at the Bay, an event designed to serve recovering injured soliders and veterans. The participants, many of whom were injured while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, enjoyed a day of adaptive waterskiing, kayaking, jetskiing, and cycling. The soldiers were receiving treatment at Naval Medical Center San Diego, Camp Pendelton, and the San Diego VA Hospital.

The San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation believes that participation in programs like SummerBlast can increase morale, assist in recovery, and can improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities who may otherwise not know they can continue to participate in sports despite their level of ability. They recently started the Injured Soldier Program which is designed to provide adaptive sports opportunities for newly injured service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
