Spring into 2010 - Five New Year's Resolution ideas at MBAC
The Mission Bay Aquatic Center is eager to help you achieve your New Year’s Resolution, whether it is to spend more time with friends and family, fit in more physical activity, or try something new. Here are our top five suggestions for your 2010 New Year’s Resolution:
1. Become a sailor
We offer progressive sailing classes that will allow you to challenge yourself and find out how rewarding it feels when you are sailing your own boat. Once you have taken one of our classes you will be eligible to rent out our sailboats. Take a basic sailing class with friends or family, or rent a Holder or Hobie Cat and show off your new skills to friends and family by taking them out on the water.
2. Get fit on the water
Rowing on Mission Bay can be a great full-body workout if you have proper technique and form. We offer two different types of rowing—sweep rowing and sculling. If you are looking to improve your communication and teamwork skills, then sweep rowing is for you. You will be working together in groups of four or eight on a rowing barge as you learn the art of rowing. After this class, many participants join a local rowing club to compete or stay fit. If you would rather row by yourself, then sculling is for you. After successful completion of the basic sculling class, you will be eligible to rent out rowing shells and fit in an on-the-water workout around your schedule.
3. Try surfing for the first time (or improve your skills)
Although San Diego is a popular California surf spot, many San Diego residents have never attempted surfing. Our very skilled instructors are usually able to have you standing up and riding waves on the first day of your surf class. We offer classes for all skill levels, and based on your availability, you can attend a one, two, or four-session class.
4. Challenge yourself at wakeboarding
Learning to wakeboard or water-ski can be intimidating and challenging at first. However, our skilled instructors will help you overcome your fears and learn quickly. The first time that you get up and ride around the bay you will feel an overwhelming rewarding feeling of accomplishment. We have classes available for beginners, as well as for advanced riders who want to learn challenging new tricks.
5. Explore Mission Bay
Bring friends and family with you or go solo as you get a new perception of Mission Bay by renting a kayak. Kayaking across Mission Bay allows you to experience a beautiful part of San Diego in a unique way. If you would like to become a better kayaker, we also offer kayaking classes ranging from introductory to very skilled sea kayaking.
