Back to Previous Page

Andrew LaPlant’s path to becoming the Lead Sailing and Windsurfing Instructor started when he was hired to teach surfing classes. He worked as a surf instructor for three years and then was selected to serve as the Lead Surfing Instructor. Andrew’s background in sailing began when first learned to sail at the young age of eight when his Dad would take him out on a Catalina 22. He has used his time at MBAC furthering his sailing education and experience, and is now serving as the Sailing Lead. When he is not on the water teaching sailing at the MBAC, he enjoys crewing on larger keel boats in races including the annual Hot Rum Series Regatta. Andrew is a graduate of San Diego State University. Andrew can be reached at MBAC by calling (858) 488-2040 ext 208 or email sailing@missionbayaquaticcenter.com.

Why do you love to teach sailing and windsurfing?

“The thrill people get when they are propelled by the wind is something that never gets old. It’s great to teach a person how to connect with nature like that and to see them grow in their sailing abilities. I really enjoy being able to share my passion for sailing with so many other people!”
