Stand Up Paddling Lessons & Classes

Stand Up Paddling at MBAC

We offer many options for stand up paddleboard lessons or classes for beginner or intermediate stand up paddling (SUP) in San Diego.  

Our Stand Up Paddling-Basic Skills class provides on-land instruction before heading out on the water with one of our stand up paddleboard instructors by your side.  While stand up paddling might seem quite simple, many people do it incorrectly until taking one of our classes.  Our instructors will be able to perfect your body position making sure that you are utilizing your core and getting a good workout in.  

A unique experience is our brand new Moonlight Stand Up Paddling excursion. On this guided tour, you will explore Mission Bay under the moon and stars and take advantage of the typically glassy night conditions. 

If looking for a new routine for your workout, our SUPCore Yoga or SUPCore Fit are great options. 

  • SUPCore Yoga turns your stand up paddleboard into a floating yoga mat.  The calmness of Mission Bay will help you relax and help all of your worldly cares float away.  Our certified Yoga Instructors will guide you through a series of yoga poses as you challenge your body and balance on a stand up paddleboard. 
  • SUPCore Fit is a fitness workout on a stand up paddleboard utilizing your own body weight or resistance bands to get a full body workout.  Fitness movements include squats, planks, push-ups, crunches, and plenty more to make sure that you get an effective workout while on the water. 

Stand Up Paddling Classes & schedules

STAND UP PADDLING-BASIC SKILLS

2 hours. 1 session. Stand up paddling has emerged as an easy and exciting way to combine a strong core workout with the enjoyment of being out on the water. In this fun and active experience, you will learn the fundamentals of stand up paddling including etiquette, safety, equipment, and paddling technique. Then set off on Mission Bay to put your new skills to the test. Once you have successfully completed our stand up paddling introductory course, you will be qualified to rent our boards on Mission Bay.

MOONLIGHT STAND UP PADDLING

1 class session. New for Summer 2014! Want to go stand up paddling under the moon and stars? Then sign up for our exciting and unique new excursion. The Moonlight Stand Up Paddling class takes advantage of the typically glassy conditions on Mission Bay at night. Boards, paddles, lifejackets and lights are all included. 

Prerequisite: Stand Up Paddling-Basic Skills or equivalent

SUPCORE YOGA

1.5 hours. 1 session. Experience amazing yoga practice outdoors and on the water! Using stand up paddleboards as a floating mat, we will practice a sequence of asanas (yoga poses) on the flat water of Mission Bay. While no prior yoga experience is necessary, this practice will challenge your individual edges of flexibility, focus, strength, and balance. We will conclude with a relaxing savasana (meditation) and finally a short paddle back to shore.

SUPCORE FIT

1.5 hours. 1 session. This is an active and challenging introduction to fitness workouts using a stand up paddleboard. We will begin with a strong warm-up paddle and progress into fitness exercises covering all the major muscle groups followed by a series of stretches. Be ready to improve your SUP skills and accomplish a rigorous workout while enjoying fun on the water.

Prerequisite: Stand Up Paddling- Basic Skills
